According to Bloomberg (for what it’s worth), European Union regulators are forewarning on their concerns that too frequent Covid-19 booster shots might negatively impact a vaccine recipient’s immune system causing a weakened response and may not be appropriate.

Marco Cavaleri, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) head of biological health threats and vaccines strategy stated at a press conference on 1/11/22 that boosters “can be done once, or maybe twice but it’s not something that we can think should be repeated constantly.”  The narrative appears to be consistent as he suggested we need a strategy to transition from the current pandemic to more endemic.”

Bloomberg reports the EMA recommends, “Countries should leave more time between booster programs and tie them to the onset of the cold season in each hemisphere, following the blueprint set out by influenza vaccination strategies”.

This as some countries are considering offering second boosters for protection against Omicron. Israel has become the first nation to start providing a second booster to citizens over the age of 60.

Within the UK, they’ve decided “there is no need for a second booster shot at the moment, but will review data as it evolves”.
