American, Southwest and JetBlue pilots have filed a lawsuit against the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for issuing an order requiring “Persons to Wear Masks While on Conveyances & at Transportation Hubs without providing public notice or soliciting comment.”
Fox Business stated on March 16, 2022, “Pilots are asking the court to vacate worldwide the FTMM (federal transportation mask mandate)” calling the move an illegal and unconstitutional exercise of executive authority.”
The TSA mask mandate was put in place in early February, was extended until May and now remains in place until mid April. The CDC states they will continue to “work with government agencies to help inform a revised policy framework for when, and under what circumstances, masks should be required in the public transportation corridor,” TSA said in a statement earlier this month. “This revised framework will be based on the COVID-19 community levels, risk of new variants, national data, and the latest science.”
The lawsuit states, “the pilots claim that federal officials adopted the policy despite countless scientific and medical studies and articles showing that face masks are totally ineffective”.
